Italian Job Intro: filmed on location

35MB wmv file added on Tuesday 24th March 2009 by sassthathoopie

A recreation of the iconic opening sequence to the Italian Job filmed on the same road. Unfortunately I don't own a Lamborghini Miura so my Honda NSX had to stand in!

Great little video, (one of the best I've seen on here) - out of interest where actually is this famous road then?

Grand San Bernard Pass is on the Swiss/Italian border, E27 between Martigny and Aosta. The original is shot ascending the Italian side, starting with the bridge at the bottom, then going past the hotel at the top. That would then suggest the Mafia scene is actually on the Swiss side!

Last summer there was extensive road repairs on the Italian side (hence the digger) so we filmed the ascent of the Swiss side and added the relevant intro parts once down on the Italian side. I took the liberty of including a short section of the Stelvio pass at the end.

Filming this was a life affirming experience smile

Great to watch - many thanks. I bought a new HDD/DVD recorder this week and the first DVD I put in to check how well it worked was the original Italian Job so I only watched this road two days ago.

Here's the original. To be honest I think they've taken some liberties with the order of shots as well!

Great video, I would have enjoyed it as much just with the 'music' from the Honda!

brilliant, went to do this run about five years ago on bikes with a mate in early september and when we got there the pass was shut because of melting snow and falling rocks, so had to go back the year after and it was worth it, this clip brought back a lot of happy memories and gave us a good laugh.

That is a pretty cool video.

I would have preferred the sound of the Honda engine a lot more. Is there any chance you could upload an unedited version without the music?

Your wish is my command!

I've uploaded a new film to Pistonheads TV featuring extended footage of the Stelvio Pass, as well as the highlights from the Grand St Bernard Pass. There is no soundtrack besides a 3.0 VTEC reving to 8000rpm, amplified by a Taitec lightweight exhaust, and the surrounding cliff faces. Should be up shortly.

Enjoy!

Thats an awesome video. Getting me fired up for August when me in my shiney new RS and my mate in his Evo6 are off to Monaco via the alps. Will have to pop in on this road though. Looks amazing! Good effort, top vid and lovely car.
