How much is a lap in the Ring taxi these days?

I've had more exciting laps just hanging around and blagging pax laps from the car park!

What model BMW is that?

It's about 185Eur i think (it's been a while since i was last there)

Yes you can have far more exciting laps if you hang around the car park and ask, but a 4 up lap with Sabine behind the wheel is one of those things that just has to be experienced, even if it's purely to see what car control is really about!

I blagged 2 pax laps in a Mathney Racing tweaked GT3 RS, they were far more exciting than the 'Ring Taxi lap, but I'd still have paid it all again for another lap with Sabine behind the wheel

I was overtaken by Sabine on an impossible bend in my pride 911. She added insult to injury by flicking it sideways at the same time. What a job she has!

You need to be very quick to book these, they sell out for the year on the first day usually.

i gave up counting the number of cars we overtook, got to 25, Andrea was the drivers name he spoke great english, he reckoned he done around 2500 laps,. We didnt get overtaken smile

its pretty much a stock car with a few beefed up parts and safety bits added

here he is in the white t-shirt

Did it in May....got a cancellation the day before for the following morning.....it's €195 for up to 3 people, and well worth it just for the experience.......

how often to they replace brakes and tyres on the 'Ring Taxis' ?
CampDavid
07/09/2009 15:26:34
Tyres 10 laps, brakes 20 laps, suspension 50 laps.

Whole car gets scrapped after the year

yikes

I know it will have done a lot of work but scrapped! Surely a great car to buy for conversions.

the Ring taxi guys are first rate. you have to be in the car to get a proper idea of how they fling this big old M5 about. to an extent, they also adjust how they drive according to how they rate the passengers' appetite for speed. this is a slightly better clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAmffVb06tY&fmt...

So the car would get through a couple of sets of tyres and a set of brakes per day of running? These cars must easily clock 20 laps per day when they are fully booked.

they're slow.

Ring taxis told to keep it above 8:30 these days... so are easy fodder.

VIper is slightly more like hard work, but is still catchable on TF...

A bit O/T but the gearbox in that M5 doesn't look or sound very smooth, there is a lot of jerking and a long pause between gears, does anyone know if that is the "maximum speed" setting?

That driver is a legend - hanging the tail out whilst making 'neeeooowww' noises and still finding time to comment on the scenery. bow "Where ist Mr Ferrari, huh? We're still warming the tyres!" hehe

Wonder how it works? BMW sell the Beemers to the taxi company for vastly reduced price for the advertising etc? just wondering how the business model works.

Had it in the comfort setting when we went round for some reason! Longevity?

When I ha my ring taxi ride I just wandered up on the day and booked it, they had 6 or 7 spaces free.

I wonder how over-familiar the drivers get and how they combat this? I mean, you go round and round and round and you get alittle cocky and the bend then bites you on the ass?

I didn't think the ring taxi's let you past? Wasn't there a story of a guy in an Atom getting blocked by one?

of course they do but

A you have to be quicker than them
B you have to make your move round them when they are playing

to be honest even mucking about they are very quick

Disagree. I thought he was very entertaining, and a marked improvement on Sabine (who I had a lap in the taxi with) who seemed to be quite 'up herself', and gave the impression that she really didn't want to be there.

I just dont 'get' it. The whole concept. I mean I am NOT a good driver however I would only want to drive round there myself. Not to be driven round. It just wouldnt appeal- does that make sense? smile

Doing a lap with a good driver is an eye-opener - it shows just how slowly you do it yourself.

I was lapping around 12 mins until I went out with some people who know the track. Knocked 2 mins off just like that...
